How CASE Connects Businesses Across The City: LevelX Consulting & MacArthur Foundation

August 16, 2018

LevelX Consulting – a Chicago-based finance, accounting, and management advisory firm, has specialized in tailored strategic finance and accounting solutions since 2012. And like many other businesses in the CASE network, LevelX was looking to expand its business. Always sensitive to the needs of their businesses CASE got to work.

, brought some of her team members to a CASE event to show them how the MacArthur Foundation, president of Julia StaschEarlier this year, CASE is connecting local businesses to opportunities at anchor institutions across the city.

At the end of the event, a MacArthur executive asked CASE how to get matched with CASE-ready businesses. As part of the CASE process, the team reviewed MacArthur’s information to understand their wants, needs, and opportunities, which included a management audit report for the board of trustees on a critical foundation process. Based on these inputs, the CASE team reached out to several local businesses, including LevelX, to vet them for the opportunity.

As part of the vetting process, LevelX provided information about its financial, operational and management capacity to be assessed by CASE’s propriety matchmaking tool. “Going through the process was extremely helpful,” said Ken Thompson, president of LevelX. “It validated a few of the observations I had about the business but also shed light on other aspects, including how to effectively customize our pitch depending on the client’s needs, which has been really important.”

After a CASE review and MacArthur’s consideration of the firm’s background and experience, LevelX secured an important project with the Foundation. “Through LevelX we saw first-hand the value CASE can provide to institutional buyers of all types—beyond anchors—who are eager to buy local and need some help finding qualified firms, “said Julia Stasch.

Thompson says the CASE process has also been instrumental in helping to grow his business. He says CASE helped LevelX refine its pitch, which was critical in securing a two-year project with a Fortune 500 company, also based in Chicago.

“We wouldn’t have been able to bring LevelX to where it is without CASE,” Thompson said. “Having CASE broker introductions, like that with MacArthur, was extremely beneficial.”
